Hello and a Warm Welcome

Hi, I’m Karen and I’m an experienced and accredited counsellor based in Milton Keynes.

Are you facing challenges that life often throws our way but finding it difficult to work through them, or feel that something isn’t quite right and feel either anxious, stressed overwhelmed all of the time?  Are you looking to make changes in your life but are not sure where to start, or even how to start? Do you dread the beginning of each new day?

At some point we all struggle with concerns or troubles that may inhibit our happiness and wellbeing causing us stress, anxiety or depression.    I help clients gain clarity on where they are now and where they want to be, helping them realise their potential and move forward with confidence and courage, and be free of anxiety, stress or overwhelm for good.

We all need help from time to time in our busy hectic lives and that’s ok.  All too often we struggle to know who to ask for help as everyone else seems to have their own problems and we feel guilty reaching out because we don’t want to be a burden, so we are left feeling alone and isolated not knowing where to turn.

Counselling provides you with a safe place to explore your situation in a safe, supportive and confidential environment with someone who can empathise and understand your situation and help guide you to solutions, new ways of thinking, or just give you space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

Areas Where I can Help

Working with adults, I have specific experience with clients from the following areas:

  • those experiencing stress, anxiety or depression as a result of work pressures or a change in personal circumstances
  • those struggling with loss of confidence or purpose in life
  • those experiencing lack of confidence or self esteem
  • those struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one
  • those struggling to cope with being a full or part-time adult carer for a loved one

I provide a safe space, in which you can feel accepted, understood and listened to with kindness, empathy and compassion. I would love the opportunity to work with you and understand you may have questions, so I offer a free 20 minute consultation for you to see if the way I work feels comfortable for you. I aim to respond within a few hours.

How Therapy Can Help

Using an integrative approach, which basically means I adapt how I work based on your needs.  I recognise that everyone is unique and will experience these symptoms in different ways we can work through different approaches and explore different solutions that feel right for you.

What can I expect?

You will be welcomed into a comfortable and safe environment where we can talk through how we can work together to bring greater understanding to your symptoms and help you back to increased mental health and wellbeing.  I offer a discreet, professional and ethical service completely tailored to your needs respecting your values, personal, cultural or religious beliefs.

What People Say

It’s understandable and perfectly natural that you may feel nervous about seeing a therapist for the first time.  Most of my clients feel this way so it’s really important that when we first speak or meet you feel welcomed, comfortable and at ease.

I hope that by sharing how others have experienced working with me it will give you some comfort too.

How Can I Help?

People come to me with a variety of different issues and symptoms, some of which I have outlined below.   Simply click on the + symbol to read a little bit more about the symptom.   I offer a 20 minute free consultation to help you decide whether therapy is right for you and that you are comfortable working with me too.

Anxiety and Panic

Anxiety and panic can be debilitating and being able to function throughout the day through a constant feeling of unease or even fear.  Therapy can help you explore what is causing the anxiety or panic working to ease symptoms by introducing some simple daily techniques that will help.

Find out more about anxiety and panic here and a client experience who I worked with where I demonstrate some of these techniques.

Depression

If you are feeling low, or have a history of depression regular therapy can help manage and bring some relief.  Although there are common symptoms with depression everyone experiences it in their own unique way so the therapeutic approach is tailored to your needs.

Confidence

Confidence is like a water tank, you continually need to keep topping it up, it is essential in all aspects of your life, helping you reach your goals, feel motivated and have self belief in your talents and abilities.  .   Everyone experiences low confidence from time to time, and a talking therapy can help to explore the causes of your low confidence and look at arming you with a set of tools to help give your confidence a real boost.

Grief and Loss

Loss can be many things, it can be the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job you loved dearly, loss of a pet, or loss of a relationship you held dear.   Grief and loss are one of the most difficult things to go through in life and not something you can do without some form of support.  This is where therapy can help.   Read more on grief and loss here.

Self Esteem

Having a healthy self esteem allows us to achieve what we want in life and have a positive outlook, it is our view of how we see ourselves but often we find ourselves struggling with the belief that everyone else is better than us, that we are not good enough and we begin to focus on our weaknesses not the wonderful strengths that we all have.  Talking therapies allow you to look at where you are now, and explore how you can begin to build a healthy self esteem.  Find our more about self esteem here.

Stress Management

The pressures of life can leave us feeling stressed and sometimes overwhelmed.   In small does Stress can be helpful, when working properly, stress helps you stay focussed, energetic and alert.  Too much stress however can have detrimental effects on your health both mentally and physically.  Therapy allows you to explore your own stressors, and helps identify useful strategies and tools to effectively manage stress in your life.   Read more about stress here.

Work Related Issues

Love it or hate it, the fact is that we spend a considerable amount of time in a work environment, it can be challenging, it can be rewarding or you may want to be making a big change.  Even the most successful of people sometimes need to talk about their work life.  Whether it’s the stresses of corporate life or the pressure of running your own business, therapy helps you find tools to cope.  You may be looking for ways to manage your work life balance, work relationships that may be difficult or you may be experiencing bullying at work, or even being able to find more purpose and fulfilment in your working life.
